The J.C. Raulston Arboretum and the Triangle Carolinas Nature Photography Association are seeking entries for its juried print competition. Photographers can submit two original prints of garden or plant-related subjects until Friday, Sept. 6. The entry fee is $20 for adults and $10 for youths. Cash prizes will be awarded during the opening reception from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and the winning entries will be on exhibit Sept.9-Oct. 4. The Storybook Theater will audition adult and childrens roles for its upcoming production of the musical Frosty the Snowman on Sept. 6-7. Adult auditions will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday in Room 306A at the Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh. Childrens auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Marbles Kids Museum, 201 E. Hargett St., Raleigh. Actors must be able to sing and execute standard musical theatre style dancing. Rehearsals will begin Nov. 11, and performances are scheduled from Nov. 29-Dec. 24.
Art at Little Theatre
Raleigh Little Theatre presents Yasmina Rezas Art, a comedy where lines are drawn and old friends square off when one purchases a canvas that is just a pure white painting. Call for fiction
The Piedmont Laureate program is accepting applications from authors of short fiction for 2014.
Authors must be residents of Wake, Alamance, Durham or Orange counties. The Laureate will receive a stipend of $6,500 and serve for one year. Laureate activities include readings, workshops and creative writing and literature promotions.

The International Bluegrass Music Associations Wide Open Bluegrass festival will be held Sept. 27-28 in downtown Raleigh. The event will feature music, a music expo, a public street fair and the N.C. Whole Hog Barbecue State Championship. The festival is part of the IBMAs World of Bluegrass 2013, which takes place Sept. 24-28 and includes a business conference and the IBMA awards.
