Stone Soup benefit

The eighth annual Stone Soup benefit for Urban Ministries is set for Wednesday. Lunch is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 121 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, and dinner is 5-7 p.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh. Enjoy homemade soup, bread and dessert. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Bowls created by the Triangle’s Potters Guild will be available for donations of $25 or more. Jim Crow-era moviegoing

History à la Carte: Trifacial Moviegoing is scheduled from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. Bring a lunch; beverages provided. Christopher McKenna, department of English and comparative literature at UNC-Chapel Hill will examine Jim Crow-era moviegoing in Robeson County, where theaters imposed three-way segregation of audience members.

Honoring female veterans

Honoring Women Veterans is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday in Jones Chapel at Meredith College, 3800 Hillsborough St., Raleigh. The event will feature Meredith President Jo Allen, Brig. Gen. Norman C. Free ID, fingerprinting for children

During November, Wake County libraries are holding sessions to create free child ID cards with photos and fingerprints. Parents must be present to participate. Cameron Village Regional Library, 1930 Clark Ave., Raleigh, holds its session from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

Kids Club: Sound

Raleigh Christmas Parade

The 2012 Christmas parade will begin at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hillsborough and St. Mary’s streets. The parade is about 1.5 miles through downtown and takes about 2.5 hours. The rain date is Sunday.

Dog Wash to benefit Second Chance

Second Chance Pet Adoption, a local rescue group, will hold its monthly dog wash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Unleashed, 7414 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh. Get your dog washed and brushed for $10.

American Indian Heritage Celebration

The 17th annual American Indian Heritage Celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. Dancers in traditional regalia, drum groups, storytellers, craftspeople and others from North Carolina’s eight state-recognized tribes will participate. Learn about the contributions of the state’s American Indians, past and present. The event will feature performances, artisans at work, hands-on activities and informative talks. The event lineup includes a performance by blues musician Lakota John of the Lumbee tribe and a weapon-making demonstration by John Blackfeather Jeffries of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. Santa for children with autism

Spare Some for Autism is holding its first Sensitive Santa Event from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh. The mall will be closed to accommodate children with autism, and the Santa area will be made sensory-friendly with lower lights and quieter surroundings. A professional photographer will be on hand. All mall entrances – not department store entrances – will be open, but the Panera Bread entrance in the back of the mall is closest to the Santa area.
