Northern Wake Republican Club

B. J. Lawson will be the featured speaker at the February meeting of the Northern Wake County Republican Club on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Events at Newton Square, 230 Newton Road, Raleigh. Lawson, a graduate of Duke Medical School, is a proponent of health savings accounts and catastrophic insurance coverage. The topic of his talk is “Obamacare and its impact on the health care system.” Dinner will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:15. Dinner is $15; people who wish to attend but not eat dinner are welcome to do so for $6.

Stein to address Democratic men

N.C. Sen. Josh Stein will address the Wake Democratic Men’s Club on Monday, Feb. 13, at the Clarion hotel in downtown Raleigh. Doors open at 6 p.m., and a plated dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

RSVP to wakedemmen@wakedems.org no later than 10 a.m. the day of the meeting. Dinner is $17 for members, and $20 for non-members, which can be paid at the door.

Keystone Club of Raleigh

Wake Forest Chess Club every Monday

Wake Forest Youth Chess Club

Youth chess players in grades K-12 are encouraged to come and work with other youth and the Franklin Academy High students to improve their game from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday night at Wake Forest Coffee Company, 156 S. White St. The club is preparing for the K-12 Wake County Chess Championship on March 11.

Kiwanis Monday bingo in Wake Forest

Wake Forest Kiwanis hold regular bingo nights each Monday at The Factory, 1839 S. Main St., in Wake Forest. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and games run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. All profits support the club’s projects, such as Key Clubs, Third Grade dictionaries and scholarships.
