Do you have a couch you aren’t using? Are there books on your shelf you no longer pick up? Have your kids outgrown the clothes in their closet?

North Raleigh Presbyterian Church wants your gently used items for its upcoming 11th Annual Super Saturday Indoor Yard Sale.

All proceeds will go to help local and global causes, such as assisting local families who lose their homes in a fire, hurricane relief and contributing to the Haiti relief effort.

“When unexpected tragedy or natural disaster happens, the yard sale gives us funding to have available to use to help,” said church member Janet Livengood.

Last year’s sale raised more than $11,000.

The church is accepting any item in good condition except adult clothing, computers, encyclopedias, large appliances, cribs, exercise equipment and car seats.

Donations can be dropped off Friday through Wednesday at the church, 11905 Strickland Road, Raleigh. Call the church office at 919-848-9529 for hours. Free pickup of large items, such as furniture, is also available.

The community is invited to shop the indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4, at the church. Early bird shopping is available for a donation of $5. Free coffee will be served, and homemade baked goods will be for sale. BBQ lunch plates with the fixings will also be available.

The yard sale is a favorite event for many of the church members. Almost all of the 350 members get involved, from tagging the furniture to baking banana bread to sell.

“The yard sale has taken on a life of its own. It’s an event that the church really gets excited about,” Livengood said.

Interfaith study of Exodus: Four churches and two synagogues are uniting to hold an interfaith Bible study from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Temple Beth Or, 5315 Creedmoor Road in Raleigh.

The event is organized by Temple Beth Or, First Baptist Church on Salisbury Street, First Baptist Church on Wilmington Street, The Fountain of Raleigh, Edenton Street United Methodist Church and Temple Beth Meyer. The congregations joined for the study to give their members a chance to learn about and get to know people in other faiths and denominations.

During the study, worship leaders from five of the congregations will talk about the Book of Exodus on the theme “What Do We Need to Move toward Deliverance?”

Child care is provided for children younger than 5, and elementary children can attend educational programming. The community is invited to attend this free event, and registration is not required.

For more information, call Temple Beth Or at 919-781-4895.

Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church contemporary service: Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Raleigh is now offering a contemporary worship service beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays called The Grove. The new service will meet in the church fellowship hall.

“We hope this new service will be an option for those who already attend Pleasant Grove to grow spiritually through another type of worship – one that is energetic, contemplative, simple, engaging, authentic to Christ and empowering,” said associate pastor Rev. Meredith Snider, who will be leading the new service.

“And, of course, we want to attract those who are looking for a church home.”

The new service is in addition to traditional Sunday morning worship services offered at 8:30 and 11 a.m. The church provides child care for all three services for kids 4 and younger. The church is located at 4415 Pleasant Grove Church Road.

For more information, call 919-787-7763.

Providence Baptist classes: Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh is starting two new classes this week. An introductory class for a 10-week class on Finding Financial Freedom will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.

Enhancing Marital Sexual Intimacy, a six-week course on the biblical and practical insights about healthy sexual intimacy, begins from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. Materials cost $35 per couple for the marriage course, and pre-registration is required.

For information on either class, call Becky Estes at 919-326-3000 or visit www.pray.org. Both classes will be held at the church, 6339 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.
