Exploris students celebrate Raleigh Food Day
Students from Exploris Middle School in Raleigh delivered fresh fruits and vegetables that they collected for a food drive to the keynote speaker at Raleigh Food Day on Monday.
The students also presented their research on a number of food-related issues, including coffee production in Central America, hunger in Haiti, deforestation of the Amazon for cattle and soy production, overfishing, obesity and and pesticide use.
These presentations were part of a food issues project, "Where We Live, What We Eat: Geography's Impact on Food," that the Exploris students have worked on for the past two months.
Today, the Exploris students will be participating in the Campus Food Day at N.C. State from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brickyard. The students will talk to college students about their research findings and involve them in games, quizzes, petitions, and pledges that encourage action and change to improve the quality of global health and food systems.
