Lightning Bugs: See the lights of summer in action. A hike, game and craft will be included in this fun and educational program scheduled to take place from 7 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Point Park. Friday

Downtown Raleigh First Fridays: Enjoy a free, self-guided tour of local art galleries, art studios, museums, retail, restaurants and alternative art venues. Also, check out the new downtown R-Line Free Bus Circulator, a 20 minute loop that includes stops in the Moore Square District, Warehouse District, Fayetteville Street District and Glenwood South District. Look for the First Friday Flags to locate participating venues. A free detailed map/guide will be available at each location. Saturday

African American Cultural Festival: The African-American Cultural Festival, in partnership with the city of Raleigh and Wake County, is proud to present a family-friendly celebration of African-American arts and culture in downtown Raleigh. The festival will take place on Fayetteville Street from City Plaza to Davie Street. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
